Dr. Javad Sharifi Rad is a Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Universidad Espíritu Santo in Ecuador, specialising in molecular oncology and pharmacognosy. Recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate’s Web of Science, he has made significant contributions to cancer biology and the therapeutic applications of natural products. His research integrates pharmacology and molecular biology to identify and characterise bioactive compounds from plants for cancer prevention and treatment. Investigations into compounds such as anethole, moscatilin, and homoharringtonine have elucidated their molecular mechanisms and translational potential in various cancer types. His work supports the development of phytochemicals as drug candidates, particularly for chemoresistant malignancies. Dr. Sharifi Rad also holds academic appointments at the Centro de Estudios Tecnológicos y Universitarios in Mexico and the University of Azuay in Ecuador. He has led and collaborated on multidisciplinary research initiatives spanning academia, healthcare, and industry. His global public health contributions include co-authorship in major international studies such as the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) initiative. He actively contributes to the scientific community as a reviewer for more than 30 international journals and participates in editorial activities supporting the advancement of biomedical research. Currently, Dr. Sharifi Rad leads research initiatives focused on developing innovative, plant-based therapeutic strategies and translational solutions to improve outcomes in treatment-resistant and complex cancers.
