What your manuscript should include
We are flexible about format, not about standards. Like any peer-reviewed journal, we ask every manuscript to include the essentials below — each one links to the policy that explains it.
Title, abstract and keywords
An accurate title, an abstract of no more than 300 words and at least three keywords.
Authors and contributions
Every author with their affiliation and CRediT role, and a named corresponding author with an email address.
Competing interests
A statement of any financial or non-financial competing interests — or a statement that there are none.
Funding
Every source of funding for the work, including grant numbers.
Data and code availability
Where your work uses data, materials or code: where they can be found, with repository names and persistent identifiers.
Ethics approvals
For research with people or animals: the approving committee, permit numbers and consent. Clinical trials include their registration number and CONSORT checklist.
AI use
A statement of how any AI tools were used in the research or the writing.
References
A complete reference list in the standard style of your field.
Figures and tables
Numbered and cited in the text with their captions. Also upload each one as its own file.
