Dr. David Galeano is a engineer, energy systems specialist with more than 18 years of experience in the electric power sector, innovation strategy, and regulatory analysis. He currently serves as Chief Editor of the Nuclear Science and Technology community at ScienceBank, bringing a multidisciplinary perspective that integrates nuclear engineering, data science, public policy, and energy economics to support rigorous scientific dissemination and evidence-based decision-making. Dr. Galeano holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Antioquia, an M.Sc. in Statistics from the National University of Colombia, and a degree in Electrical Engineering, complemented by postgraduate training in project evaluation, machine learning, and nuclear security. His doctoral research focused on advanced quantum systems and topological properties of materials, while his professional work has centered on energy systems modeling, risk analysis, and strategic planning for complex infrastructure.  He has completed specialized nuclear training at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Instituto Balseiro in Argentina and is a Certified Nuclear Security Specialised Professional (CNSsP) from the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS). His technical interests span nuclear energy deployment, small modular reactors, radiation science, fuel cycles, and the integration of nuclear power into sustainable energy systems, particularly in emerging economies. Professionally, Dr. Galeano works at EPM, one of Latin America’s largest public utilities, where he has held roles in innovation, energy regulation, market analysis, and strategic business development. His work includes feasibility studies for advanced energy technologies, regulatory impact modeling, demand forecasting, and financial projections for large-scale energy investments. In academia, he teaches nuclear energy courses at the National University of Colombia and the University of Antioquia and coordinates postgraduate-level training programs, including a Nuclear Energy Diploma program. He is also actively involved in research groups on nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, and nuclear technologies, and has collaborated internationally on theoretical materials science and energy policy. Dr. Galeano is a prolific author of scientific articles, technical reports, and policy analyses on nuclear energy, electricity markets, and energy transition in Latin America. His publications include peer-reviewed journal papers, book chapters, and outreach works aimed at improving public understanding of nuclear science. His research is focused on studying novel pedagogical and technological approaches to promote learning, researching brain-computer interfaces for human-robot interaction, capturing and quantifying tacit knowledge and expertise to understand implicit learning, using AR/VR systems for improving training, and exploring science policy in the domain of education. Andrés has 10+ years of expertise in experimental design, data science and quantitative methods and advocates data-driven insights to enhance educational research and assessment towards accessible high-quality education, for everyone, everywhere. He is an experienced published author and reviewer for several academic journals.

Ana Elisa Casas Botero is a chemical engineer, master in biotechnology, and doctor in materials science. She was associated with the Pontifical Bolivarian University of Colombia for 20 years, where she worked as a professor, researcher, and director of the Chemical Engineering Faculty for the Textile Engineering and Nanotechnology programs. Ana Elisa has published various scientific articles on biotechnology and materials topics and has worked as a co-investigator in projects related to the treatment and diagnosis of colon cancer using bio and nanobiotechnology. She has more than 50 publications, 2 patents, and over 20 technical innovations. Her work includes protocols for determining various chemical substances in wastewater and agricultural residues, the development of biosynthetic methods for producing nanomaterials, and innovations in biotechnology. Notable projects she has supervised include studies on the adsorption and flotation of ferronickel extraction residues using bacteria, and the production of enzymes from sugarcane bagasse. Additionally, Ana Elisa has made significant contributions to cancer research, particularly in developing nanotechnological approaches for the targeted treatment of colon cancer. Dr. Daisy Shu is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Retinal Research Group at the University of New South Wales' School of Optometry and Vision Science. Holding a Bachelor of Optometry and Vision Science from UNSW (2013) and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Sydney (2019), she further advanced her expertise through postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School's Schepens Eye Research Institute. An expert in retinal epithelial and endothelial cell biology, Dr. Shu’s research delves into mitochondrial and metabolic dysfunctions that drive retinal diseases like age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Her work on the molecular mechanisms of epithelial-mesenchymal transition has provided critical insights into AMD pathogenesis and potential therapeutic targets, and has been supported by prestigious grants and awards, including the ARVO Emerging Advocate Award and the ASIP Postdoctoral Award for Outstanding Research. Beyond her research, she is dedicated to translating scientific discoveries into clinical trials aimed at curing AMD, actively engages in science communication through her podcast “Behind Our Science,” and leads educational initiatives for graduate students.
