Marcello Iriti, PhD

Dr. Marcello Iriti is Associate Professor at the University of Milan. His multidisciplinary research focuses on bioactive phytochemicals—such as polyphenols, carotenoids, melatonin, and essential oils—and their roles in plant defense, human health, and disease prevention. He has investigated their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, neuroprotective and cardioprotective properties through preclinical models and human studies, with a particular emphasis on the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet and the ethnopharmacology of traditional remedies. A prolific author with over 300 publications, Dr. Iriti has been recognized among the world’s top 2% scientists by Elsevier and Stanford University. He holds patents related to chemoresistant cancer therapies and plant disease prevention. Dr. Iriti is an active reviewer and editor in several international journals. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Medicinal Plants, Academic Editor for PeerJ, Plos ONE and Frontiers in Nutrition. He also serves on the editorial boards of several other high-impact journals, including Food Chemistry: Molecular Science, Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry and Medicine. He is a founding member of the Italian Society of Environmental Medicine and contributes to advisory panels across Europe, including for the EU, Academy of Finland, and national research councils in France, Switzerland, Germany, and Hungary. Dr. Iriti is also a member of the World Academy of Sciences and the Asian Council of Science Editors.
