Luis Fernando Guarín Cabrera

Luis Fernando Guarín Cabrera, MSc, PhD(c) is a chemical engineer and nuclear technology specialist with expertise in experimental reactor systems, neutron activation analysis, and radiation protection. He contributes to advancing nuclear research, education, and technological applications through both academic teaching and applied investigation. Mr. Guarín Cabrera holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Simulation, a specialization in Technological Applications of Nuclear Energy, and a degree in Chemical Engineering. He is currently a PhD candidate, further developing his research in nuclear science and engineering. He served as a faculty member and researcher at Instituto Balseiro (Argentina), where he taught courses in Nuclear Measurements, Experimental Physics, and Elements of Research Reactors. His academic and research activities focus on experimental nuclear techniques and reactor-based applications. His research interests include neutron activation analysis, prompt gamma neutron activation analysis (PGNAA), radiochemistry, radiation protection, and the operation and characterization of research reactors. He has contributed to the development and safety assessment of PGNAA instrumentation at the RA-6 research reactor and has conducted studies on radioisotope activity in reactor cooling systems. His work also includes computational studies of neutron interaction properties in supercritical water using molecular dynamics. Through his interdisciplinary expertise spanning nuclear engineering, chemistry, and computational modeling, Mr. Guarín Cabrera supports the advancement of nuclear science for research, industrial applications, environmental monitoring, and technological innovation.
