Dr. Md. Monirul Islam is a Professor of Agricultural Economics at Bangladesh Agricultural University and a former Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CSIRO–Agriculture & Food, Adelaide, Australia. He earned his PhD in Agricultural Science from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 2022, where he received the Academic Excellence Dean’s Award. He also holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agricultural Economics from BAU, where his outstanding academic performance led to his early appointment as Lecturer and subsequent promotion to Assistant and Associate Professor. Dr. Islam’s teaching portfolio spans principles of economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, production economics, farm management, and agricultural and resource economics. His pedagogical interests emphasize bridging environmental and resource economics with applied microeconomics, alongside a commitment to sustainable forest management and indigenous community engagement. He has supervised undergraduate theses and mentored student teams, including the BAU group that won the Best Student Idea Award (2017) in an international innovation competition. His research expertise encompasses econometric modeling, agricultural risk management, climate adaptation, GIS and remote sensing, geospatial crop insurance, and sustainability transitions. He has published 48 peer-reviewed articles, 43 indexed in Scopus, with over 1030 citations and an H-index of 17. His work appears in leading journals such as Agricultural Systems, Sustainable Development, Soil & Tillage Research, Green Finance, and PLOS ONE. He has presented at major conferences including AARES and EAAE, and his research has informed government and industry reports.
