Ana Isabel Salazar Puerta, PhD

Ana Isabel Salazar Puerta is a Postdoctoral Fellow, with a PhD in biomedical engineering from The Ohio State University, following her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Universidad EIA in Colombia. Her research is centered on developing micro/nanotechnology-based systems for gene delivery and cell therapies, with the goal of engineering cells and tissues to enhance tissue regeneration. Dr. Salazar Puerta has leveraged these systems to generate therapeutic extracellular vesicles (EVs) for treating various medical conditions (e.g., pulmonary inflammation, low back pain, diabetes, and cancer), and has used these platforms to induce controlled lineage conversions in vivo to enhance the rate of peripheral nerve regeneration. She has published extensively in multiple journals, holds several patent applications, has presented her work at several national/international conferences, and frequently serves as a technical reviewer for various journals.
