Jorge Ruiz Medrano, PhD

Dr. Jorge Ruiz Medrano is a vitreo-retinal specialist currently associated with the Ocular Microsurgery Institute (IMO) Grupo Miranza in Madrid and the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital. He completed his Ophthalmology training at the Clinico San Carlos University Hospital and earned his PhD with the highest honors, Summa Cum Laude, from Complutense University of Madrid, where he was awarded the Extraordinary Doctoral Thesis Award. His clinical expertise includes the medical and surgical management of retinal and macular pathologies such as retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conditions associated with high myopia, alongside cataract surgery. As part of his extensive training, he completed two international Fellowships for his subspecialization in surgical retina and ocular oncology at the Jules-Gonin Hospital in Lausanne and the Bellvitge University Hospital. Dr. Ruiz Medrano is the author of over 40 international scientific papers and 28 book chapters, and has contributed to more than 20 international clinical trials. In 2016, he was awarded the title of Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology in Paris.
