Basic Biomedical Advances Mission

To publish rigorous basic research that deepens our understanding of the biological mechanisms of health and disease, and to make those findings accessible to researchers worldwide.

Our community provides a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing fundamental and translational research in biomedical sciences, fostering innovation across biology, medicine, and related disciplines. We welcome fundamental, applied, and translational research that contributes to the understanding of biological systems and the development of novel strategies to improve human health.

The scope encompasses scientific, technological, clinical, and societal dimensions of biomedical research, bridging basic science discoveries with real-world applications in healthcare and disease management.

We welcome, but are not limited to, submissions in the following areas:

• Molecular and cellular biology, including signaling pathways, gene regulation, and cellular mechanisms
• Genetics, genomics, epigenetics, and systems biology
• Stem cells, developmental biology, and regenerative medicine
• Immunology, inflammation, and host–pathogen interactions
• Neuroscience, neurobiology, and brain–behavior relationships
• Cancer biology and mechanisms of tumor development and progression
• Metabolism, endocrinology, and metabolic disorders
• Cardiovascular, respiratory, and vascular biology
• Microbiology, virology, and infectious diseases

This community reviews double-blind:

• Authors' names and institutes are withheld from Reviewers and from the handling Editors during peer review.
• Reviewers' names and institutes are withheld from Authors, during peer review and after the decision.
• Reviewers' names and institutes are anonymized to each other during peer review.
• The peer-review record is not published: no Reviewer or Editor names appear alongside the final article.

Peer review process

1. Pre-screening. The ScienceBank team screens every submission for compliance with ScienceBank policies, for originality using Similarity Check, and for overall quality.
2. Pre-acceptance. An Editor from this community checks whether the manuscript has enough information, of sufficient quality for its article type and field, to go to peer review. If there is a potential conflict of interest between a community Editor and the Authors, ScienceBank assigns a suitable Editor from another community.
3. Peer review. Two external Reviewers are invited to assess the manuscript and give constructive feedback. The handling Editor then condenses the Reviewers' comments into clear guidance for the Authors on the revisions needed for resubmission.

Our editorial pool currently accepts articles in English. To submit in another language, contact edops@sciencebank.com with your proposal so we can assess whether we have the capacity to review it.

We welcome diverse article types and encourage submissions of null, negative, and contradictory results, as well as replication studies.

Publishing fees

This community publishes fully open access, and authors keep their copyright under an open licence. Fees depend on Society membership:

• Society members publish with no article processing charge (APC).
• Non-members pay a flat, transparent fee of 1,000 USD to publish. You can submit now and pay only if your article is accepted, or pay at submission and be refunded under the Fees and Payment policy if it is not published.
• Waivers are available on request under ScienceBank's Fees and Payment policy, including for researchers from low- and middle-income countries.

Type of peer review

Peer review process

1. Pre-screening: All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the ScienceBank team to ensure policy compliance with our policies, originality (using the software of Similarity Check), and the overall quality.
2. Pre-acceptance: If a manuscript passes the initial screening, an editor from our community will evaluate whether it has the enough amount and quality of information (according to article's needs and the field standard) to proceed to peer review. In the case of potential conflicts of interests with our current editors and the authors, ScienceBank will suggest an appropriate editor from another community.
3. Peer review: After pre-acceptance, two external reviewers are invited to evaluate the manuscript and provide constructive feedback aimed at improving it. Editors will then scope reviewers' comments to offer authors clear guidance on the revisions needed for resubmission.
