Medicinal Plants Mission

Mission Statement

To publish research on the chemistry, pharmacology, safety and traditional uses of medicinal plants, and to bring together traditional knowledge and modern evidence.

Aims & Scope

Our community provides a platform for publishing high-quality research on the therapeutic potential, pharmacological activity, and safety of plant-derived compounds. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions that explore the role of medicinal plants in human health, disease prevention, and treatment—through the lenses of pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and traditional medicine. Our scope spans from fundamental phytochemical research to translational studies that advance the development of plant-based therapies.

We welcome, but are not limited to, submissions in the following areas:

  • Isolation, characterization, and bioactivity of phytochemicals and plant-derived compounds
  • Pharmacological and toxicological evaluation of medicinal plant extracts and active constituents
  • Mechanisms of action of plant-based compounds in inflammation, cancer, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Ethnopharmacology, traditional knowledge systems, and the therapeutic relevance of regional medicinal flora
  • Preclinical and clinical studies on the efficacy and safety of phytotherapies
  • Comparative studies on natural compounds and synthetic drugs for chronic and chemoresistant conditions
  • Biotechnology, formulation, and standardization approaches in herbal medicine research
  • Nutraceutical and functional food applications of medicinal plants and phytochemicals

Peer Review Policy

Type of peer review

This community uses a single-blind review system:

  • Authors' names and institutes are visible to Reviewers and Editors during peer review.
  • Reviewers' and Editors' names and institutes are anonymized throughout peer review. They become visible upon publication or rejection.
  • Reviewers' names and institutes are anonymized to each other during peer review.
  • For accepted articles, the names of the Editors and Reviewers appear alongside the final article.

Peer review process

  1. Pre-screening. The ScienceBank team screens every submission for compliance with ScienceBank policies, for originality using Similarity Check, and for overall quality.
  2. Pre-acceptance. An Editor from this community checks whether the manuscript has enough information, of sufficient quality for its article type and field, to go to peer review. If there is a potential conflict of interest between a community Editor and the Authors, ScienceBank assigns a suitable Editor from another community.
  3. Peer review. Two external Reviewers are invited to assess the manuscript and give constructive feedback. The handling Editor then condenses the Reviewers' comments into clear guidance for the Authors on the revisions needed for resubmission.

Multilingual submissions and peer review

Our editorial pool currently accepts articles in English. To submit in another language, contact edops@sciencebank.com with your proposal so we can assess whether we have the capacity to review it.

Licensing Policy

Licensing

Articles in this community are published under the CC BY 4.0 licence.

Others may copy, distribute, remix, and build upon the work — including for commercial purposes — provided they give appropriate credit to the original authors.

Multilingual submissions and peer review

Currently, our editorial pool is open to receive articles in English.

If you want to submit in a different language, please contact us at edops@sciencebank.com with your proposal to assess if we have the capacity to evaluate your paper.

Publishing fees

This community publishes fully open access, and authors keep their copyright under an open licence. Fees depend on Society membership:

  • Society members publish with no article processing charge (APC).
  • Non-members pay a flat, transparent fee of 1,000 USD to publish. [Charged at submission and refunded if the article is not published.]
  • Waivers are available on request under ScienceBank's Fees and Payment policy, including for researchers from low- and middle-income countries.

For questions about fees, membership or waivers, contact edops@sciencebank.com. To understand what the publishing fees cover and all the benefits of publishing at ScienceBank, please refer to the "Publishing fees" section in the Fees and Payment policy.

Type of peer review

Our community offers a single-blind review system, which means:

  • Authors’ and institute’s names are visible to reviewers and editors during peer review
  • Reviewers’ and editor’s names and their institutes are anonymized throughout the peer-review process but made visible upon publication or rejection
  • Reviewers' names and institutes are anonymized to each other during the peer review process
  • For accepted articles, names of the editors and reviewers will be visible alongside the final article
Peer review process
  1. Pre-screening: All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the ScienceBank team to ensure policy compliance with our policies, originality (using the software of Similarity Check), and the overall quality.
  2. Pre-acceptance: If a manuscript passes the initial screening, an editor from our community will evaluate whether it has the enough amount and quality of information (according to article's needs and the field standard) to proceed to peer review. In the case of potential conflicts of interests with our current editors and the authors, ScienceBank will suggest an appropriate editor from another community.
  3. Peer review: After pre-acceptance, two external reviewers are invited to evaluate the manuscript and provide constructive feedback aimed at improving it. Editors will then scope reviewers' comments to offer authors clear guidance on the revisions needed for resubmission.
