Preferred Formats

If the article has already been submitted to another academic journal, Authors can upload the manuscript with the format previously used. Authors can also follow the ScienceBank template.

ScienceBank welcomes other types of exploratory formats different from the IMRAD structure, as long as the information is well organised, coherent, and presents all needed information for Reviewers to assess the quality of data and research. Formats can only lead to rejection of the manuscript if they render the information unclear, unreadable, incomplete, or if they raise concerns about proper attribution. In such instances, the Editors may request the Authors to resubmit before proceeding to peer review. Otherwise, minor issues on formats can be addressed during the peer-review process.

Submission Checklist

To increase your chances of pre-approval, please make sure that your manuscript:

  1. Falls under our currently accepted article types.
  2. Has an accurate title and keywords.
  3. Lists all authors involved, their roles according to the CRediT taxonomy, and their current academic information (credentials, institution, city/state and country, and research group/laboratory). For example: PhD Neurology, Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Diseases, Harvard University. Massachusetts, USA.

If necessary, the manuscript includes an ‘Acknowledgement’ section with all the other contributors that do not qualify for authorship. 4. The corresponding author’s name, mailing address if available, and email are clearly identified. 5. Has an Abstract that does not exceed 300 words, highlighting the key questions, propositions, and findings. 6. The manuscript is divided into a logical structure, with organised headings and subheadings according to the purpose of the manuscript. 7. Has an appropriate section to disclose any potential conflict of interests, financial and non-financial. If the authors have no conflicting interests, the section must declare it  (‘Competing interests’). 8. If the manuscript involves the use of materials, samples, or data as part of the methods and findings of research, include a Data Availability Statement. The statement must list the name of the repository or repositories as well as digital object identifiers (DOIs), accession numbers or codes, or a long-lasting reference to a resource such as Persistent Identifier (PID) for all relevant data. If data cannot be provided, the reasons have to be explained in this statement. 9. If the manuscript contains images, figures, tables, or other files, they must be accurately numbered and labelled within the text and in the file names (if attached separately from the manuscript). 10. Contains a section with the bibliography correctly referenced using the format standard for each field of study.

Additional requirements

For clinical trials:

  • Complete the CONSORT checklist and flow diagram, and provide these at the time of submission The recommended trial flow diagram may be presented as a figure.
  • Provide the trial registration number in the ‘Acknowledgments’ section
  • Submit a copy of documentation from IRB and or ethics committee confirming approval of the research. For example a copy of the IRB approval letter.

For research involving non-human animals:

  • Evidence of approvals from the Authors’ Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, or a section disclosing why authorization was not required. Provide details of the name of the IACUC or equivalent ethics committee, permit numbers, and other details about experiments.

For research involving human subjects:

  • Evidence of approval for human subjects research by an institutional review board (IRB) or an equivalent body before the commencement of studies.
